ScienceDaily recently reported the following:— "A Northwestern University-led research team reports that insulin, by shielding memory-forming synapses from harm, may slow or prevent the damage and memory loss caused by toxic proteins in Alzheimer's disease.
The findings, which provide additional new evidence that Alzheimer's could be due to a novel third form of diabetes, was scheduled to be published online the week of Feb. 2 by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)."

My Mother-in-law did not recognize us for the first time on Mother's Day. Still, she seemed glad to have company, so we were glad to be with her.
Still, it can be hard to take.

Thanks for your comment Mary. I describe in my book, Dementia Diary, what it felt like when my Mom told the nursing home nurse that I was her grandson. Still, at least she still knew I was family. The worst was yet to come. Yes, it can be hard to take, but hang in there. She may not be able to find the right words but, deep down, she knows you are important to her.
